Matt Drews is a Seattle based artist who harnesses yoga + dance as rituals toward communal immersion. His creative roles oscillate as connector, choreographer, teacher, and performer. He is the producer and art director of Pistil.
He steeped in Shambhala Buddhism at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado where he took a deep dive into somatic psychology and yoga. Matt holds a BFA in Dance from Cornish College of the Arts. He’s studied Gaga with Ohad Naharin / Batsheva Dance Company (Tel Aviv), worked with Danielle Agami / Ate 9 Dance Company (Los Angeles), and tEEth Performance (Portland). He has also worked extensively with Kate Wallich + the YC (Seattle), and as a choreographer and performer with the radical experimental theater company Saint Genet (Vienna).
His work has been presented locally at On the Boards, Velocity Dance Center, and Decibel Electronic Music Festival and internationally at Luminato Festival (Toronto), Holland Festival (Amsterdam), Wiener Festwochen (Vienna), and Donau Festival (Krems). He has been teaching yoga and dance in Seattle since 2013, and completed his Reiki Master Training with Lisa Levine in 2019.
